Our focus is on three essential areas: community support, food sustainability and disaster relief. Through collaboration, shared knowledge, and meaningful action, we work to address immediate needs while creating stronger, more sustainable communities for the future.
Community Support
Supporting communities by serving children and youth remains a priority to our founders. Education is instrumental in halting cycles of poverty. Carry the Light seeks to support individual students and their families with school supplies and food resources, allowing them to focus on learning without the distraction of hunger or inadequate supplies. This support can reach into a variety of areas including after-school and summer programs both community and school based.
Understanding the importance of a community-based approach, Carry the Light is developing partnerships with area schools, churches, and community-based organizations to address education needs.
Food Sustainability
Connecting Residents to Fresh Food
While the US has a significant amount of food resources, there are vast inequities in terms of what foods are available where. Most rural areas are considered “food deserts” where the only foods available are cheap and highly processed. Carry the Light seeks to provide fresh food supplies by partnering with area food distributors, local farmers, and regional food banks.
Carry the Light believes it is vital to approach food insecurity strategically at the local level. Always working to address food sustainability through plans which cover access, production and distribution.
Disaster Relief
During a crisis, circumstances can seem very dark and discouraging. Carry the Light goes to those experiencing a disaster to help provide relief for immediate needs: clean water, food, hygiene supplies, cleaning supplies and tarps. We shape our work around the realities families face during severe weather by focusing on the needs that matter most in urgent situations.
Carry the Light partners with churches and community leaders to be a source of aid and resources to ensure no one is left in the dark.
