Housing as a Human Right?

A lot of leaders and thinkers have suggested that housing is a human right. Rather than debating this topic at length, Carry the Light has instead opted to live what its founders believe: That it is possible to house EVERYONE in this country…provided that we think strategically and use available resources effectively.

To this end, Carry the Light is developing housing initiatives which facilitate:

• Secure Tenure: Residents will be protected from forced evictions, harassment, predatory redevelopment, and displacement.
• Adequate Infrastructure:  Residents will have access to safe drinking water, heating and lighting, washing facilities, food storage, and sanitation.
• Affordable: Residents will have access to housing which is affordable based upon their budgets and available subsidies.
• Protection from Elements: Residents will have access to housing which provides adequate space that protects from cold, damp, heat, rain, wind, or other threats to health.
